Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum - Annual Aviation Camp See Photos of Aviation Camp
The museum will host its eighth Aviation Camp on June 9-13, 2008. Students from 7th grade through 12th grade are invited to participate. Classes will be held in the Discovery Learning Center in the museum, in our hangar, in various airplanes, the Challenger Learning Center in Bloomington, IL and at Willard Airport in Champaign. Campers will meet from 8:30-3:00, Monday through Friday. Camp tuition is $175.00.
Campers will learn about aviation, aerospace and related careers through classroom instruction, lectures, videos, hands-on operation of tools and equipment and actual flying aircraft. Again, campers will experience a simulated space mission at the Challenger Space Center in Bloomington and a tour of the Prairie Aviation Museum. A tour of Willard Airport will include the FAA Control Tower, the firehouse, aircraft maintenance facilities, and the Flight Institute. Campers will also take a forty-five minute ride in one of the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation's aircraft.
Two Camp Scholarships are available for students in the camp's age range. Applicants must submit a short essay, no longer than one page, which states the reasons the applicant desires to attend the camp. Mail the essay to the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum, 1011 Pacesetter Drive, Rantoul, IL 61866. The essay may be e-mailed to educator@aeromuseum.org.
