Developed in the late 1950s, the Bell UH-1 would acheive fame during the war in Vietnam. It was used primarily as a troop transport, gunship, and air ambulance by the U.S. Army. Over 2,000 were lost in Vietnam. The U.S. Air Force used the UH-1 as a troop and cargo hauler.

The aircraft on display, UH-1B S/N 61-0686, is on loan to Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum from the National Museum of the United States Airforce.
