Women with Wings
An aviation event for women


What is the event?
 
The program is designed to acquaint women who are unfamiliar with aviation to meet those who are. Pilots and aviation enthusiasts can meet and interact with those who are curious about the mysteries of flying. This event is designed to allow participants to see and touch airplanes and gain a better understanding of how they work.
 
Who can attend?
 
All women from high school and beyond are invited to participate. Registration is free, but the number of participants is limited.
 
Scheduled Activities
 
1. A session on the history of women in aviation which will highlight pioneers, barnstormers, air racers, professional and military pilots.
 
2. Panel discussions by women of various interests in aviation, such as instructors, professional pilots, military aviators, hot air balloonists, and recreational flyers.
 
3. Hands-on activities that will demonstrate aviation construction and repair. Participants will also put together a balsa airplane and fly it.
 
4. An introduction to an airplane, the power plant, and the instruments by means of a Power Point presentation.
 
5. Pilots will lead participants on a walk around a small plane. This session will include sitting in the cockpit and an explanation of the parts of the plane. A demonstration of the control surfaces will also be given.
 
6. The day will end with an optional tour of the museum which can be self-guided or with a tour group.
 
Lunch
 
Lunch will be furnished, and at each table one or more "Women with Wings" will be available to talk about their experiences and answer questions, This is a time for the non-aviators to interact with the flyers.
